Heart Centered Practices for Living Your Fullest, Most Vivid and Precious Life with Ruby Roebuck(Ep. 3 of 6)

In this episode:

This is the third episode in a series of six, where I am sharing stories, anecdotes, exercises and valuable tips on how to align your energy via the five elements which relate to the chakra system within Polarity Therapy. As this episode is focused on the air element or heart chakra, I am sharing a deeply heartfelt, vulnerable, and undoubtedly heart-warming conversation with myself and my daughter Ruby Roebuck.

Ruby is a 20 year old college student wise beyond their years, and an incredibly empathetic human being. Their studies in embodiment, social justice, outdoor education, and climate action have led them to a myriad of heart centered practices. Ruby's eloquent share is full of generosity, humility, and a spiritual maturity that may just bring you, the listener, straight into your own heart alignment.

In this episode Ruby and I discuss:

  • The dangerous and painful emotions that can keep us from wanting to tune in to the heart and how to create safe space to do so
  • Rubys relationship to listening to their heart and how to move the immense grief that is there around climate change and social justice
  • How playing piano (even if you don't know how), spending time in nature, crying freely, and being childlike, playful, and embodied can help us to align our energy through the heart
  • Heart centered practices and perspectives to help cultivate discernment, connection, and how doing so leads us to the fullest most vivid and precious life we could ever live.

Transcript
Ruby Roebuck:

when I think about the collective body, what I wanna do is be

Ruby Roebuck:

like feeling my feelings and moving them.

Ruby Roebuck:

That's where I wanna be.

Ruby Roebuck:

I wanna be located in the heart of the collective body.

Ruby Roebuck:

Mm-hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

. If every human being came together, I'm gonna make room when I cry to

Ruby Roebuck:

like play the piano to make something beautiful and to really go to the

Ruby Roebuck:

depths of my being, you know, on behalf of everything and everyone.

Ruby Roebuck:

that's going on.

Ruby Roebuck:

And then it also becomes a prayer.

Ruby Roebuck:

And it's not just like I'm, I'm sad and I don't dunno what to do.

Ruby Roebuck:

And you know, When we have practices that allow us to explore our hearts

Ruby Roebuck:

and our emotions, we can create, we can actually create something

Ruby Roebuck:

beautiful that we're like proud.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like you can turn it into something.

Amanda Lux:

welcome to Lone Traveler's Guide to the Divine, a podcast for

Amanda Lux:

empaths, healers, dreamers, and seekers.

Amanda Lux:

My name is Amanda Lux and I'm the creator of The Elevation Hive School and Community

Amanda Lux:

for Energy Medicine and Dreamwork.

Amanda Lux:

This episode is a super special, unique one, especially in how it came to be

Amanda Lux:

in that I was really listening for the last few weeks to my own energy

Amanda Lux:

and to the ways that I find alignment.

Amanda Lux:

And more often than not, how I get out of alignment through

Amanda Lux:

the air element personally.

Amanda Lux:

Up to the point where this morning I just had no idea how I was going to be able to

Amanda Lux:

share from a place of wisdom and truth.

Amanda Lux:

I knew that I was gonna have to get there myself, and all I could

Amanda Lux:

see was the things in the way.

Amanda Lux:

and for the last few weeks, my daughter was in town for the holidays visiting

Amanda Lux:

from where they go to college, . And they just kept asking me, how is your heart?

Amanda Lux:

How is your heart?

Amanda Lux:

And it was the funniest thing because I had more challenge come up around that

Amanda Lux:

question than I ever would've thought.

Amanda Lux:

And it really did, , invite me to look deeper into that question of how do I

Amanda Lux:

align through my heart, through the air?

Amanda Lux:

And so, A lot of times when we ask a question like that, the answer we get

Amanda Lux:

comes through the form of self-work of this is where you're out of alignment.

Amanda Lux:

This is where you aren't there.

Amanda Lux:

This is where your challenge is.

Amanda Lux:

And then we get to observe that.

Amanda Lux:

, and it can be really difficult sometimes to observe it with compassion, but I

Amanda Lux:

was just amazed with the opportunities that came up through my daughter.

Amanda Lux:

And so this morning, as I was sitting in preparation to hit record and.

Amanda Lux:

I was tuning into my own heart and I was feeling all of the ways I was not in

Amanda Lux:

alignment in my own energy, specifically in relation to the air element.

Amanda Lux:

And I actually consciously went and connect.

Amanda Lux:

On a spirit level energetically.

Amanda Lux:

With my daughter.

Amanda Lux:

I was thinking about them and how they inspire that energy for me, and then I

Amanda Lux:

hit record and I started to talk and all of a sudden they called it was seriously

Amanda Lux:

divine timing I hit pause on the record.

Amanda Lux:

and I said, Ruby , I can't believe you're calling me right now.

Amanda Lux:

Do you have time in your busy schedule to hop on Zoom with me and

Amanda Lux:

have a conversation about the heart?

Amanda Lux:

And they were like, sure.

Amanda Lux:

. So spontaneously, which is very much in the, in the realm of the air, is that

Amanda Lux:

kind of , spontaneous synchronistic.

Amanda Lux:

Heart connection space we created and we had the most profound conversation,

Amanda Lux:

and we got to a place where by the end , I had just been weeping and

Amanda Lux:

weeping and feeling so much in my heart.

Amanda Lux:

Like I have never experienced almost, you know, maybe I have, I don't wanna

Amanda Lux:

say never, but in a very unique way.

Amanda Lux:

I felt super, super centered in my heart.

Amanda Lux:

. So I'm really, really thrilled that I get to share this conversation in this

Amanda Lux:

episode , that I didn't know how I was gonna get to , and that it came through

Amanda Lux:

the resource of this human being who is in my life, who's so special to me.

Amanda Lux:

That I now get to share with you as we journey into this question of.

Amanda Lux:

What happens when we aren't in our, our alignment through our heart?

Amanda Lux:

What does that feel like?

Amanda Lux:

And why don't we go there?

Amanda Lux:

What is the scary thing about that?

Amanda Lux:

, and what are some of the practices that we can use to get there?

Amanda Lux:

And Ruby has so many really beautiful words to share around that.

Amanda Lux:

This is from a young person who is 20 and in college.

Amanda Lux:

Is one of the wisest, oldest souls I've ever met.

Amanda Lux:

Always has been.

Amanda Lux:

So it's a really beautiful thing to hear their expression around this topic, which

Amanda Lux:

is something that they spend a lot of time and they do a lot of work around.

Amanda Lux:

But before I share this beautiful conversation that I had with my daughter

Amanda Lux:

and all these incredible tools around aligning your energy in your air, in your.

Amanda Lux:

. I wanted to also just let you know that I have a vlog that accompanies this

Amanda Lux:

episode as I, I have been doing lately.

Amanda Lux:

but it's a little different than the others in that it's not necessarily

Amanda Lux:

going along with the audio podcast.

Amanda Lux:

I'm sharing instead an adventure.

Amanda Lux:

I had exactly one year ago when I was in Puerto Rico painting

Amanda Lux:

three, four story murals.

Amanda Lux:

And that's the video that I'm gonna be sharing, with

Amanda Lux:

the release of this episode.

Amanda Lux:

, so I invite you to check that out on my YouTube channel.

Amanda Lux:

If you enjoy it, please hit the like button, subscribe, comment.

Amanda Lux:

That is so supportive for me.

Amanda Lux:

When you do those things, I, it means so much.

Amanda Lux:

And I also wanted to just mention that I do have a bunch of classes coming up.

Amanda Lux:

A lot of them are in person and I also will have some online

Amanda Lux:

courses coming up available on my.

Amanda Lux:

Where you can learn about polarity therapy, craniosacral therapy, dreamwork,

Amanda Lux:

and , other aspects of energy medicine.

Amanda Lux:

So you can look at elevationhive.com and check out my new website, and there

Amanda Lux:

are a lot of resources there for you.

Amanda Lux:

And so today's topic, aligning our energy through our heart chakra, through the

Amanda Lux:

air element, and this is a precious, beautiful, sacred conversation that is

Amanda Lux:

intimate and authentic and vulnerable and all of the beautiful things.

Amanda Lux:

Between myself and my daughter,

Amanda Lux:

so I'm super honored to bring into this episode my daughter Ruby Roebuck,

Amanda Lux:

who is, , an incredible human being

Amanda Lux:

And to begin, I just wanna invite you, Ruby, , to share how is your heart today?

Amanda Lux:

How are you and how is your heart?

Ruby Roebuck:

Hi.

Ruby Roebuck:

Um, I'm so grateful to be here.

Ruby Roebuck:

Very excited.

Ruby Roebuck:

This is probably my favorite thing to talk about and think about.

Ruby Roebuck:

My heart is feeling very full right now.

Ruby Roebuck:

I woke up just a couple of hours ago and usually spend the morning time.

Ruby Roebuck:

To check in with my body and think about my dreams and

Ruby Roebuck:

set an intention for the day.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I'm still in that morning reflective space where I'm kind of

Ruby Roebuck:

exploring what, what is in my heart today, like what's alive today.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I, it feels like things are moving and bubbling up and, um, I feel a

Ruby Roebuck:

lot of gratitude in this moment and really comfortable and grounded.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm excited to be here.

Amanda Lux:

Hmm.

Amanda Lux:

Thank you for sharing that and your morning routine.

Amanda Lux:

What a beautiful practice that is, that you have, and I'm not surprised at all

Amanda Lux:

to hear that you engage that way in your own heart and your own energy on

Amanda Lux:

a daily basis, just knowing you and who

Ruby Roebuck:

you are.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yay.

Ruby Roebuck:

It also includes movement.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like after I get up, there's usually, especially with the

Ruby Roebuck:

heart, cuz it's usually like hard to identify all that's going on.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's just like feelings.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I like to wiggle my body and my arms and feel the energy in

Ruby Roebuck:

in my body and move whatever's going on in my heart, through my

Ruby Roebuck:

whole being to drop more into that.

Ruby Roebuck:

Hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

Which does feel like a heart-centered embodied morning practice?

Ruby Roebuck:

I would say

Amanda Lux:

yes, that sounds like the definition of a

Amanda Lux:

heart-centered embodiment practice.

Amanda Lux:

, . How is my heart moving?

Amanda Lux:

How is my heart relating to my body?

Amanda Lux:

What's happening here in this other dimension of my physicality

Amanda Lux:

in relation to my heart?

Amanda Lux:

I love that exploration.

Amanda Lux:

And I'm curious, just from your perspective, Ruby, like why,

Amanda Lux:

why do you tune into your heart regularly and in this way?

Amanda Lux:

why do you think it's important for anyone to wake up and ask that question?

Amanda Lux:

How is my heart today?

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

It feels like an abstract concept to think about your heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's something I've only been really diving into in the last year and I

Ruby Roebuck:

think different embodiment practices have actually brought me to that space.

Ruby Roebuck:

And other reflective practices including being in nature and

Ruby Roebuck:

working with plants, plant tinctures.

Ruby Roebuck:

That are specifically used to get you to tune in to your heart and

Ruby Roebuck:

to your mind in different ways.

Ruby Roebuck:

So that has been a huge doorway for me.

Ruby Roebuck:

, and I think without doorways like that, , like sitting with plants or taking plant

Ruby Roebuck:

tinctures or being in nature or , being introduced to meditations that invite

Ruby Roebuck:

you into your heart, it can feel like a very abstract concept of like, oh,

Ruby Roebuck:

how do I even tune into my heart?

Ruby Roebuck:

I think that's the first question , what does that even feel like?

Ruby Roebuck:

How do we even open the door to feel our hearts?

Ruby Roebuck:

How do we know, you know, how do we know?

Ruby Roebuck:

It's not a feeling in our head or a feeling in our

Ruby Roebuck:

body, like anxiety, you know?

Ruby Roebuck:

Or when you like someone or you're attracted to someone, a

Ruby Roebuck:

lot of people think that's.

Ruby Roebuck:

in their heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

But I think there's so much more that goes on in our hearts , than we realize,

Ruby Roebuck:

but we need to be able to identify it.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I think part of the practice, why I listen to my heart is also like a

Ruby Roebuck:

continued practice of being discerning and differentiating what is in my

Ruby Roebuck:

heart versus what is in the other parts of my body versus what is in my

Ruby Roebuck:

brain and what is going on in my life.

Ruby Roebuck:

So it's all these different threads that are interconnected, but the

Ruby Roebuck:

practice of trying to just drop into your heart through embodiment and

Ruby Roebuck:

through meditation and maybe through writing could also be through song.

Ruby Roebuck:

I sing a lot.

Ruby Roebuck:

I also sing every morning as a way to just.

Ruby Roebuck:

open up and let things move.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I like to, , do a meditation.

Ruby Roebuck:

I imagine that I'm tuning into my heart and that I'm opening my heart

Ruby Roebuck:

and my heart's connecting to my hands, and then connecting up my throat

Ruby Roebuck:

and that I can speak from my heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I think having intention is a way to open that door, and

Ruby Roebuck:

it's always an exploration and it's always like trying to,

Ruby Roebuck:

turn up the volume of what's going on in our heart and trying to

Ruby Roebuck:

differentiate that from the other senses.

Amanda Lux:

I love that.

Amanda Lux:

That's really profound what you just said.

Amanda Lux:

I, and I just wanna reflect the exploration that you just gave around,

Amanda Lux:

what's the doorway we use to get there?

Amanda Lux:

And learning how to even differentiate, because it can be abstract, right?

Amanda Lux:

Without a specific road in say through a plant tincture or a guided

Amanda Lux:

meditation or a specific movement practice that gets you there.

Amanda Lux:

Like how does one even begin to differentiate what they're hearing?

Amanda Lux:

And I'm hearing that for you.

Amanda Lux:

There are many avenues that you use to get there, including song and movement

Amanda Lux:

and all those that we mentioned, , but learning to differentiate is important.

Amanda Lux:

Why?

Amanda Lux:

Why would you say that's important?

Amanda Lux:

Why I learned to listen?

Amanda Lux:

You know, again, just bringing it back to that root question.

Amanda Lux:

I'm just curious.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

when we speak and act and are able to.

Ruby Roebuck:

, , really ground into our hearts and set an intention of living from our hearts

Ruby Roebuck:

and speaking from our hearts, and feeling our hearts that, , everything is

Ruby Roebuck:

magnified and intensified and beautified.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like the, the moments that I find myself in throughout the day are , just

Ruby Roebuck:

so, so precious and important and,

Ruby Roebuck:

, I can really feel, I can

Ruby Roebuck:

I can feel my body.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm, it's, I'm so much more present.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm so much more alive and awake and grateful.

Ruby Roebuck:

Being tuned into my heart really is also a gratitude practice.

Ruby Roebuck:

That's a really easy way also to start beginning to like find your heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like, where's my heart center?

Ruby Roebuck:

How do I feel?

Ruby Roebuck:

How do I feel that place?

Ruby Roebuck:

And for me it's gratitude.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like gratitude lives there and I can connect, I can drop back

Ruby Roebuck:

in , when I go back to gratitude.

Ruby Roebuck:

And when you have a practice of that, like for me, , it's every interaction.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's every new room that I step into.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's as often as I can to drop back into that place of gratitude.

Ruby Roebuck:

And when I'm able to do that, I'm, I feel as though I'm able to live my life fully.

Ruby Roebuck:

in a way that I can't when I don't have that same intention and

Ruby Roebuck:

that same connection to my heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

, and also I think it's really grounding

Ruby Roebuck:

Cuz we can get thrown off as human beings.

Ruby Roebuck:

There's so much energy and emotion and these stories of our lives.

Ruby Roebuck:

But when we come back to gratitude, it's like we see the

Ruby Roebuck:

world, , for the first time.

Ruby Roebuck:

From a place of saying thank you from a place of there's enough and

Ruby Roebuck:

it's exciting and these things that we want, or these things that we're

Ruby Roebuck:

feeling or something that's not quite right in our lives or in the moment.

Ruby Roebuck:

It doesn't have the, the most, my attention, like what has my

Ruby Roebuck:

attention is the love in the room.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm always asking myself, where's the love in the room in this moment?

Ruby Roebuck:

How can I just , feel that love?

Ruby Roebuck:

And when I'm in that place, it's joyful and it's beautiful and

Ruby Roebuck:

I feel grateful to be alive.

Ruby Roebuck:

I feel grateful to have the array of human emotions and experiences and interactions

Ruby Roebuck:

and everything's colorful and beautiful and I, I bring it back to the earth also.

Ruby Roebuck:

And just that I get to be alive on this planet is a really, um, beautiful gift.

Ruby Roebuck:

And when we're able to see the world that way, to see each other

Ruby Roebuck:

in that way, like we're gifts that just keep giving by just being then.

Ruby Roebuck:

We have arrived.

Ruby Roebuck:

You know, we can feel fulfilled.

Ruby Roebuck:

We can connect to our integrity and our dignity and show up fully in

Ruby Roebuck:

the moment and give everything we wanna give and say what we wanna say.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like, there's no holding back.

Ruby Roebuck:

There's no holding back.

Ruby Roebuck:

In a sense, when you're speaking from your heart and you're

Ruby Roebuck:

tuning into that gratitude, it's like, why would I hold back?

Ruby Roebuck:

This is the fullest, this moment can be, and I'm, I'm connecting

Ruby Roebuck:

to that, to that mindset.

Ruby Roebuck:

Hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

Wow.

Amanda Lux:

That's gorgeous.

Amanda Lux:

That's mind blowing and it makes me wanna cry.

Amanda Lux:

. Ruby Roebuck: Good cry.

Amanda Lux:

for somebody listening to you speak those words, . It might sound

Amanda Lux:

really cool to live in that space, but they maybe don't know that you

Amanda Lux:

actually do, and I know that because I know you and everybody that I know that

Amanda Lux:

knows you or meets you or gets to be around you has that experience of you

Amanda Lux:

that you really do live in that space.

Amanda Lux:

And it's really phenomenal.

Amanda Lux:

Ruby walks into the room and it's like a light just bursts out and they bring

Amanda Lux:

an authenticity of vulnerability and a generosity that is unparalleled.

Amanda Lux:

Like I've never met another person that does that the way

Amanda Lux:

you do, and it's just incredible.

Amanda Lux:

, and it's clearly something that you've cultivated consciously.

Amanda Lux:

I've watched you just bloom in your heart and in how you interact and how you bring

Amanda Lux:

that to spaces is wise way beyond yours, you know, it's incredible to behold that.

Amanda Lux:

And just being around you over this break, I kept seeing , how you are

Amanda Lux:

doing that inquiry for yourself, and then sharing that with me and

Amanda Lux:

asking me like, how is your heart, how are you feeling in your heart?

Amanda Lux:

And there were moments when you asked that question of me and it almost felt

Amanda Lux:

like too much, you know, where it would bring me into a space of vulnerability.

Amanda Lux:

And I wasn't prepared to go there.

Amanda Lux:

And then I had to be in that with, you know, full honesty and witness myself.

Amanda Lux:

There were moments that I had difficulty with that, but I really

Amanda Lux:

appreciated , that you do that.

Amanda Lux:

So yeah, why live there?

Amanda Lux:

Because it amplifies , the fullness of your experience, of your reality, that

Amanda Lux:

it puts you in touch with gratitude, with your own expression, and it breaks

Amanda Lux:

down those walls between individuals and between us and the earth and us.

Amanda Lux:

And every present moment experience, we can access that.

Amanda Lux:

When we come from our heart, it's, it's like we're in total truth, right?

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

Mm-hmm.

Amanda Lux:

, and that's really, really powerful.

Amanda Lux:

It's really powerful.

Amanda Lux:

I know that you talk about grief a lot and that you experience your emotions

Amanda Lux:

and your grieving emotions a lot.

Amanda Lux:

And grief generally, relates to the throat chakra.

Amanda Lux:

And in the air element we have, the polls are actually more around judgment

Amanda Lux:

and, um, and generosity, , right?

Amanda Lux:

Those are more of the polarity polls of the heart chakra, the air element.

Amanda Lux:

, but I think it's a, uh, it's a gateway, right?

Amanda Lux:

Each of these energy centers are a gateway to the next.

Amanda Lux:

And also when we tune in and listen to the truth in our heart and the

Amanda Lux:

emotional places that we go to there, uh, the uncomfortable places that come.

Amanda Lux:

. I know that you do a lot of heart-centered practices around that, around

Amanda Lux:

feeling those uncomfortable emotions.

Amanda Lux:

I just thought I would invite you to speak to that, if there's

Amanda Lux:

anything you wanna say about that.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah,

Amanda Lux:

yeah.

Amanda Lux:

I think

Ruby Roebuck:

I used to go to, , the earth and the trees as a way to feel

Ruby Roebuck:

grounded and supported to feel my grief and to feel those, more uncomfortable

Ruby Roebuck:

parts of our heart, those vulnerable parts that feel almost like dangerous.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like you said, you felt almost not ready to go to these spaces

Ruby Roebuck:

all the time, as much as I was inviting you to, which is so fair.

Ruby Roebuck:

I think that's a huge reason why, why people, , kind of close, close

Ruby Roebuck:

down from their hearts and , don't even want to think about that

Ruby Roebuck:

or try to explore is it's scary.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's scary to be vulnerable and there's so much, it's like the

Ruby Roebuck:

center of, of our emotional body.

Ruby Roebuck:

I would think.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like that's where it's, it's the most concentrated.

Ruby Roebuck:

All of our feelings.

Ruby Roebuck:

Everything gets stuck and is buried.

Ruby Roebuck:

Anything we wanna find that we felt lives in our heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

So when we have practices to explore that so much comes up.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I used to make space in my day when I was doing a lot of learning

Ruby Roebuck:

in college about climate change.

Ruby Roebuck:

And the structures in this country that feel really oppressive , and really

Ruby Roebuck:

heavy, , that impact a lot of people's lives in really, really real ways.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I was just so in that world of organizing and learning and seeing

Ruby Roebuck:

those impacts on the houseless community and on folks of color and

Ruby Roebuck:

all of that, I was just really in it.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I still am.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that brings up a lot of grief.

Ruby Roebuck:

It brings up a lot of grief to be learning about all of the oppressive systems and,

Ruby Roebuck:

things that are going on to this planet.

Ruby Roebuck:

There's just so much loss right now.

Ruby Roebuck:

As well on like a global scale.

Ruby Roebuck:

Even if we're not learning about the news, even if we're not having conversations

Ruby Roebuck:

about it, it's still happening.

Ruby Roebuck:

You know, it's still happening in the background.

Ruby Roebuck:

However much you're looking at it, it's happening and your body and your energy

Ruby Roebuck:

and your heart is being impacted by that.

Ruby Roebuck:

So for me, I started having to create space to go into my heart and, and

Ruby Roebuck:

cry and move and move some of the grief cuz it was, taking over and I

Ruby Roebuck:

was just like refusing to go there.

Ruby Roebuck:

I was like, oh, it's fine.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm just gonna keep working, work so hard, gotta keep going.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like I've got school to do, I've got things to do.

Ruby Roebuck:

I gotta serve food to the houses community.

Ruby Roebuck:

I was really just focused and , and kind of left my body behind.

Ruby Roebuck:

A little bit.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I, I wasn't sleeping a lot, I wasn't eating super well and it would

Ruby Roebuck:

result in me just feeling really stressed out, like all the time and

Ruby Roebuck:

feeling not very present and not really able to connect with people.

Ruby Roebuck:

I was very closed off from my body and my heart cause cuz I was feeling all

Ruby Roebuck:

this grief and all of this sadness and all these emotions and I just like was

Ruby Roebuck:

not making space to, to express them.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I started a practice in the spring when I finally realized,

Ruby Roebuck:

That I needed to, do this.

Ruby Roebuck:

It started to spill out basically in moments where I would be walking

Ruby Roebuck:

back from class in the woods and I would just lay on the earth on my

Ruby Roebuck:

back and look about the trees and just start crying and just start crying.

Ruby Roebuck:

And so I started like a daily practice where I would say to

Ruby Roebuck:

the earth, , what's in my heart?

Ruby Roebuck:

What is it that I need to look at?

Ruby Roebuck:

What is it that I need to heal?

Ruby Roebuck:

And what is it that I need to let go of?

Ruby Roebuck:

And I would just lay on my earth, on the earth like a baby, and I would kind of

Ruby Roebuck:

rock back and forth and just give myself this time to just have space to feel and

Ruby Roebuck:

to let go and to heal and to tune in.

Ruby Roebuck:

, and so I did that every day for a really long time.

Ruby Roebuck:

And then I just started listening to what I needed more, started prioritizing.

Ruby Roebuck:

It was like, oh, I need to eat.

Ruby Roebuck:

I need to sleep.

Ruby Roebuck:

I need to go on a walk.

Ruby Roebuck:

, I dropped one of my classes that was, felt really overwhelming and depressing.

Ruby Roebuck:

I started reading books that I really enjoyed instead of just reading books

Ruby Roebuck:

about history and climate change.

Ruby Roebuck:

So just finding that balance from listening to my body and

Ruby Roebuck:

listening to my heart after making that space and making that time.

Ruby Roebuck:

, and then I spent the summer being with kids.

Ruby Roebuck:

I just felt the call.

Ruby Roebuck:

I feel like the heart and like my intuition are connected, intertwined.

Ruby Roebuck:

So it's like a practice of listening to that and prioritizing it over

Ruby Roebuck:

pretty much everything else, including my job, including a stable place to

Ruby Roebuck:

live, including community identity school, all those things come

Ruby Roebuck:

after, what does my body need?

Ruby Roebuck:

What does my heart need?

Ruby Roebuck:

And what are those things saying?

Ruby Roebuck:

Where are they taking me?

, Amanda Lux:

I feel like I wanna just, I wanna like pop in

, Amanda Lux:

again and just say , that is.

, Amanda Lux:

So true of you, like what you just said there.

, Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

, Amanda Lux:

. So I love that you brought that in and, and I just also just love where you're

, Amanda Lux:

going and what you're sharing about your own experience of the dangerous

, Amanda Lux:

feelings, and territory of the heart and how you navigate that, you know?

, Amanda Lux:

I have meditations, even free meditations, and maybe I'll put a link to one

, Amanda Lux:

About you like tuning into your intuition and the gateway there is the heart.

, Amanda Lux:

Mm-hmm.

, Amanda Lux:

. And so it just, what you said about that is very, very true.

, Amanda Lux:

You know?

, Amanda Lux:

Mm-hmm.

, Amanda Lux:

like the gateway to our higher knowing, really.

, Amanda Lux:

I mean, you could say that the ether or the upper chakras are

, Amanda Lux:

the places of intuition, right.

, Amanda Lux:

That open that.

, Amanda Lux:

But the heart, , it's such a, a brilliant way to listen and

, Amanda Lux:

it does bridge, the body.

, Amanda Lux:

You really can't hear your, your intuition without that piece.

, Amanda Lux:

Like you can't hear your truth without that piece.

, Amanda Lux:

Your heart has to be online.

, Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

, Amanda Lux:

. Ruby Roebuck: I would just say that

, Amanda Lux:

We have to make the space to feel what's going on . Only then can we move what's

, Amanda Lux:

there, you know, because after I started making that space to feel all of the grief

, Amanda Lux:

that I was feeling around the earth all of the suffering and all of the things

, Amanda Lux:

that I can't control, and, , throughout history , and right now, there was so

, Amanda Lux:

much opening that became possible.

, Amanda Lux:

So now I have a daily practice of, , making room, to feel and to

, Amanda Lux:

let my grief move and to let my grief.

, Amanda Lux:

, and that's different on different days.

, Amanda Lux:

That requires a different amount of time.

, Amanda Lux:

Like often I've been playing the piano and that's actually my, like

, Amanda Lux:

a practice that I give to my grief.

, Amanda Lux:

I cry like almost every day, y'all . It's not funny.

, Amanda Lux:

, because I know that's a way, it's not even funny.

, Amanda Lux:

And I'm vocal about it.

, Amanda Lux:

I'm vocal about it because I think it's good and important.

, Amanda Lux:

Yes.

, Amanda Lux:

, so that's one of my practices, , when I cry, is like creating an outlet

, Amanda Lux:

and a space that's literally just for expressing whatever is in my heart.

, Amanda Lux:

And oftentimes it is grief.

, Amanda Lux:

It is like, oh man, there's, there's so much death and extraction

, Amanda Lux:

of this beautiful planet that I love that I cannot protect.

, Amanda Lux:

Hmm.

, Amanda Lux:

And it's not all on me.

, Amanda Lux:

And this is the human race being a beautiful species

, Amanda Lux:

doing what it's here to do.

, Amanda Lux:

We're all living.

, Amanda Lux:

So how can I place myself.

, Amanda Lux:

, , in my life, and also when I think about the collective body, what I wanna do is be

, Amanda Lux:

like feeling my feelings and moving them.

, Amanda Lux:

That's where I wanna be.

, Amanda Lux:

I wanna be located in the heart of the collective body.

, Amanda Lux:

Mm-hmm.

, Amanda Lux:

. If every human being came together, I'm gonna make room when I cry to

, Amanda Lux:

like play the piano to make something beautiful and to really go to the

, Amanda Lux:

depths of my being, you know, on behalf of everything and everyone.

, Amanda Lux:

that's going on.

, Amanda Lux:

And then it also becomes a prayer.

, Amanda Lux:

And it's not just like I'm, I'm sad and I don't dunno what to do.

, Amanda Lux:

And you know, When we have practices that allow us to explore our hearts

, Amanda Lux:

and our emotions, we can create, we can actually create something

, Amanda Lux:

beautiful that we're like proud.

, Amanda Lux:

Like you can turn it into something.

, Amanda Lux:

So that's one of the reasons I play the piano is that I get to just play

, Amanda Lux:

and I'm usually crying and sometimes I close my eyes, I just play and

, Amanda Lux:

something beautiful comes out of that.

, Amanda Lux:

And I don't know how to play the piano just so everybody knows . I

, Amanda Lux:

don't know what the notes are, but sometimes I try different beats and

, Amanda Lux:

it'll be fun and sometimes it doesn't sound good and sometimes I just run

, Amanda Lux:

my fingers up and down the keys,

, Amanda Lux:

or I'll just use my voice and let out loud sounds or I'll sing

, Amanda Lux:

without words or I'll sing and words will come that are comforting.

, Amanda Lux:

Or I'll even sing prayers, like prayers to the earth.

, Amanda Lux:

I'll just say , thank you.

, Amanda Lux:

Thank you for this life.

, Amanda Lux:

I love you.

, Amanda Lux:

And I'll just cry and cry and cry.

, Amanda Lux:

And sometimes it's other things too, you know, about my childhood

, Amanda Lux:

or relationships or whatever's going on that's just like, yeah.

, Amanda Lux:

Feels painful.

, Amanda Lux:

It's painful and we don't wanna feel our pain.

, Amanda Lux:

Why would we wanna feel our pain?

, Amanda Lux:

It's painful.

, Amanda Lux:

, you know, it doesn't feel good.

, Amanda Lux:

Like I'd rather turn on the tv.

, Amanda Lux:

Like that's more fun in the moment.

, Amanda Lux:

Yes, we're able to like, Play music or dance or move or lay on the earth.

, Amanda Lux:

Like do something that gives you support, that gives you an outlet that gives you

, Amanda Lux:

creativity or movement or allows you to express, then we can change shape, we can

, Amanda Lux:

change our relationship to that feeling.

, Amanda Lux:

We can change our relationship to grief.

, Amanda Lux:

And it becomes empowering and it becomes motivation and energy

, Amanda Lux:

that's being recycled and that's being moved and that's being put out

, Amanda Lux:

into the earth and into the universe in a really beautiful healing way.

, Amanda Lux:

And when we heal ourselves, it heals the collective.

, Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

, Amanda Lux:

And it heals everything that's going on.

, Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

, Amanda Lux:

So I like really center that in all of my practices and like, yeah, I'm

, Amanda Lux:

gonna sit here, I'm gonna cry because I know this is good for all of us.

, Amanda Lux:

, and this is, this is good medicine, and that's my intention.

, Amanda Lux:

And then it becomes that, and then it becomes beautiful, and

, Amanda Lux:

then I'm not scared anymore.

, Amanda Lux:

And then the pain is also love, you know, and it's also liberation, and it's also

, Amanda Lux:

justice, and it's also movement work.

, Amanda Lux:

And then it, it feels grounded in all of my values.

, Amanda Lux:

So making that space is, is so deeply important to me, even if it just

, Amanda Lux:

feels like playing also, you know, like dancing or singing or writing

, Amanda Lux:

poetry, or I'll also play the piano just for fun, but as an intention

, Amanda Lux:

to feel what's going on in my heart.

, Amanda Lux:

Mm-hmm.

, Amanda Lux:

So that's my main.

, Amanda Lux:

daily practice.

, Amanda Lux:

Just giving that space and allowing whatever to come through to come through.

, Amanda Lux:

And sometimes I'll start off crying and then I end up laughing and singing

, Amanda Lux:

and it's like the best, you know?

, Amanda Lux:

But I wouldn't ever know.

, Amanda Lux:

I wouldn't know if I didn't go there, you know?

, Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

I love everything you're saying.

Amanda Lux:

It's so good.

Amanda Lux:

I've just been over here just weeping, , silently weeping.

Amanda Lux:

I have like tears running down into my shirt, . Aww.

Amanda Lux:

Just because it's so beautiful what you're saying, what you're sharing, it's

Amanda Lux:

so vivid and so true, and I love you and how you express your heart so much,

Amanda Lux:

and I'm just so honored to get to have this conversation with you right now.

Amanda Lux:

I feel so divinely aligned.

Amanda Lux:

I was like, how am I gonna get to this place of aligning through my heart?

Amanda Lux:

How am I gonna share from here?

Amanda Lux:

And all I kept hearing as I tuned in was, all the ways that I

Amanda Lux:

wasn't aligning through my air.

Amanda Lux:

Like the ways my patterns were coming up super hard a general sense of

Amanda Lux:

sort of mental chaos and negative thoughts, cycles and all the things,

Amanda Lux:

I have had this awareness and I've been meditating hard on it.

Amanda Lux:

How do I speak about alignment when I feel so unaligned there?

Amanda Lux:

And I just kept hearing you Ruby in my head.

Amanda Lux:

Just inviting that vulnerability and that observational quality

Amanda Lux:

in a neutral way, right.

Amanda Lux:

And a truth, a truthful way.

Amanda Lux:

And I felt less afraid of how afraid I was in there, you know,

Amanda Lux:

of my own, , challenging places.

Amanda Lux:

And so to have this conversation with you is so personal.

Amanda Lux:

And yet also just it's such a gift that the way that you express is such a gift.

Amanda Lux:

It's profound what you're saying and what you're sharing.

Amanda Lux:

And I think that a lot of people can relate to the

Amanda Lux:

feelings of overwhelm of grief.

Amanda Lux:

And if anybody is paying attention, to anything beyond themself, then they're

Amanda Lux:

gonna be feeling that on some level.

Amanda Lux:

And I love how you said, yeah, we're feeling it even if we're not aware that

Amanda Lux:

we're feeling it cuz we are all a part of the collective and it is happening.

Amanda Lux:

There's so many unjust things going on and ways that the earth is not

Amanda Lux:

being honored and things that we need to shift and change as a race, you

Amanda Lux:

know, a human race and bring more awareness to and more compassion too.

Amanda Lux:

And , one thing I hear you speaking to a lot is, this constant question

Amanda Lux:

of how can you be a good ancestor?

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

To me, that speaks to.

Amanda Lux:

Zooming out of this present moment of the personal experience, whether

Amanda Lux:

it's of pain or pleasure, right?

Amanda Lux:

Whether, if it's of love or loss, that whatever we're experiencing on a personal

Amanda Lux:

level is totally related and connected to the grander scale thing of how we're

Amanda Lux:

all connected, not just to one another, but throughout time going forward and

Amanda Lux:

how our personal process ripples out.

Amanda Lux:

And so when you are doing that work, you're doing that work for everyone

Amanda Lux:

throughout time and history and moving forward into the future, right?

Amanda Lux:

How can you be a good ancestor?

Amanda Lux:

When I hear you talk about that, it's like, it really puts me in touch with

Amanda Lux:

, the lineage that was and will be, and how we can affect that ripple, you know.

Amanda Lux:

. . Ruby Roebuck: Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

And I think that's also a beautiful way to locate yourself in your

Amanda Lux:

own, , relationship to your emotions and your process too.

Amanda Lux:

Like when we give it that context, we give it that spaciousness and

Amanda Lux:

that relationship of like, oh wow.

Amanda Lux:

, , how I heal and feel my emotions today and the interactions that I have, how

Amanda Lux:

will that affect the future generations?

Amanda Lux:

And I think also,

Amanda Lux:

, just what you brought up about , Feeling a

Amanda Lux:

of uncomfortable feelings and observing, noticing that there's so, much going on

Amanda Lux:

that maybe isn't how you want it to be.

Amanda Lux:

And you're, he would experience, you're like, ah, can't sleep have these negative

Amanda Lux:

thought loops or patterns, you know?

Amanda Lux:

And it's like, that's so real.

Amanda Lux:

So much of this practice is about accepting where we are instead of

Amanda Lux:

going, , somewhere else in our lives.

Amanda Lux:

Like, oh, if only I could be better.

Amanda Lux:

If only I knew more.

Amanda Lux:

If only I could have left.

Amanda Lux:

If only I, you know?

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

It's like we, we can let go of that and we can just like drop in to this moment.

Amanda Lux:

I loved what you said also about, , hearing my voice and feeling safety

Amanda Lux:

it, to me it felt like you felt.

Amanda Lux:

The presence of safety to feel your heart in a neutral way, in that way of like,

Amanda Lux:

not judging, but just being like, yeah, there's all this stuff going on in my

Amanda Lux:

human life that's really hard and can I just observe it and can I be loving?

Amanda Lux:

And maybe that's the point of the heart center practice is to actually just be

Amanda Lux:

loving to all this shit that's going on.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah, that's, the tension and the uncomfortable.

Amanda Lux:

There's a lot of that and how do we just like coat ourselves in love and

Amanda Lux:

just be so loving and so present and also come back to that gratitude of

Amanda Lux:

like, yeah, thank God I have a body.

Amanda Lux:

Thank God I'm not perfect.

Amanda Lux:

Thank God I get to feel pain and get to feel tension and stay up all night

Amanda Lux:

worrying because then I get to learn and grow and I get to relax, you know?

Amanda Lux:

Exactly.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

and I do, it's so hard to be grateful in the

Amanda Lux:

moment when you're suffering.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah, yeah.

Amanda Lux:

It's so hard to be grateful for the suffering, and yet I think that's a really

Amanda Lux:

brilliant point that you're bringing up.

Amanda Lux:

That the practice, especially when we think about gratitude practice as a

Amanda Lux:

way of being in our heart and listening to the heart and aligning our energy

Amanda Lux:

through our heart center, that it's not about just getting to the good stuff.

Amanda Lux:

You know, it's about being with what is and creating safe places, to do that.

Ruby Roebuck:

That's a huge piece of all of it, because if you

Ruby Roebuck:

don't feel safe, you're not gonna be able to tune into your heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

You're not gonna be able to handle it.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's gonna be too much.

Ruby Roebuck:

So you have to be grounded in something.

Ruby Roebuck:

And maybe that's therapy and maybe it's a friend or a partner, maybe

Ruby Roebuck:

it's an instrument, you know, maybe it's a walk in the woods.

Ruby Roebuck:

But it's finding, identifying those places I think is, is a huge step.

Ruby Roebuck:

And then also that factor of , , , how are we stuck in our emotions or

Ruby Roebuck:

how are we relating to them?

Ruby Roebuck:

And I think when we do zoom out, it gives us such a beautiful opportunity

Ruby Roebuck:

to be related in a different way.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

In a, in a multidimensional way, in a whole species way.

Ruby Roebuck:

You know, it's like, oh, I'm a piece of this collective and I'm not alone.

Ruby Roebuck:

, nothing I feel is in isolation.

Ruby Roebuck:

A bunch of other people are feeling the same thing.

Ruby Roebuck:

Probably.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's the exact same moment.

Ruby Roebuck:

And if we can like tune into that, if we can remember that.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that's something my teachers have said too.

Ruby Roebuck:

So just shout out, , I'm always learning and listening and I wanna, , shout out,

Ruby Roebuck:

, Lama Rod Owens, who's wrote a book called Radical Dharma, that's all about feeling

Ruby Roebuck:

your grief and healing , , and it's about liberation, but also about Buddhism.

Ruby Roebuck:

So how do we have a spiritual practice where we're also thinking about the

Ruby Roebuck:

collective and thinking about social justice and environmental justice and

Ruby Roebuck:

moving towards a world we wanna live in a world of, , balance and respect for all,

Ruby Roebuck:

for all beings, human and, and non beings.

Ruby Roebuck:

So shout out to Lama Rod.

Amanda Lux:

Um hmm.

Amanda Lux:

I love that.

Ruby Roebuck:

He was somebody who helped plant that seed of

Ruby Roebuck:

thinking about the collective body and thinking about our ancestors

Ruby Roebuck:

if we think about what they've been through like 10 generations ago, a hundred

Ruby Roebuck:

generations ago, we really tune into the hardships that they've been through.

Ruby Roebuck:

Even if it's that, if it's just imagined, , it's likely the situations

Ruby Roebuck:

were so much more intense and yet the feelings are, are very similar.

Ruby Roebuck:

Those feelings when we feel just like at the darkest, hardest places

Ruby Roebuck:

or the scariest places, we can remember that the people that came

Ruby Roebuck:

before us have survived and we're here because they have survived and

Ruby Roebuck:

we're here cuz of their love and their existence and their determination.

Ruby Roebuck:

, it's powerful to remember that.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

Powerful tool of support, to tune into that.

Ruby Roebuck:

. And again, what, what kind of ancestors do we wanna be?

Ruby Roebuck:

I, and I think about that every day.

Ruby Roebuck:

I think about like, when I die or when I'm about to die, what do I wish I had done?

Ruby Roebuck:

What I wish I, I would have said to you , on this day, you know?

Ruby Roebuck:

And it reminds me right now, , I'm like, oh yeah, I have to say I love you.

Ruby Roebuck:

, I just want you to know I'm really grateful.

Ruby Roebuck:

You know, I really, I oughta help clean the downstairs and all this stuff.

Ruby Roebuck:

You know, that, that's very real, that's very relevant to our lives,

Ruby Roebuck:

this life to my relationships.

Ruby Roebuck:

So it's like, it's such a powerful

Amanda Lux:

tool.

Amanda Lux:

In my mind, that's like the yogic practice.

Amanda Lux:

It's like, how can I be present with my suffering in this moment so that when

Amanda Lux:

I need to be good and expert at being able to deal with my suffering in those

Amanda Lux:

other moments, I know how to do that.

Amanda Lux:

I know that place in myself that I can go, and I've cultivated the pathway there

Amanda Lux:

every day, every day in my practice.

Amanda Lux:

So I love what you're saying and what you're sharing around that.

Amanda Lux:

For myself, one of the ways that, that I do find balance in my air, in my

Amanda Lux:

heart when I am, you know, like this morning when I was sitting with my

Amanda Lux:

own, , struggle with it and going, how do I speak about alignment when I feel

Amanda Lux:

so unaligned there, ? And what, what came up for me in that moment was, Uh,

Amanda Lux:

just the humor, like seeing it as kind of funny and ironic and I was like, oh,

Amanda Lux:

isn't it just hilarious, funny, not funny that here I am trying to like muse

Amanda Lux:

on how to align your energy through your heart, and all I can see are the ways

Amanda Lux:

that I'm not re finding that alignment.

Amanda Lux:

You know, all, all that's coming forward for me are the challenge points.

Amanda Lux:

And, and so I just had a really good laugh about that this morning, , and,

Amanda Lux:

and it helped lighten it up a little.

Amanda Lux:

It helped me to just see , well, , duh, it's not like, let me be an expert

Amanda Lux:

and tell you how, how it is, you know, it's actually about how we can be

Amanda Lux:

vulnerable and truthful and, and in it,

Amanda Lux:

because we all have our own experience of what it's like to live there in moments.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

But, and then we all have our, the experience of not feeling safe to be

Amanda Lux:

there and of feeling, challenged.

Amanda Lux:

It can feel heavy and what helps for me is to , make it funny, is to

Amanda Lux:

just see the humor of it, to see the lightness and to take myself a little

Amanda Lux:

less seriously and be willing to just be in it, you know, whatever it is.

Amanda Lux:

And again, that makes me think about you and your work with children and

Amanda Lux:

your observations in how often adults don't have the patience to relate

Amanda Lux:

to children and to get in that way.

Amanda Lux:

But you have a really special way of doing that.

Ruby Roebuck:

I love being around children and working with kids

Ruby Roebuck:

in a lot of different settings.

Ruby Roebuck:

, I think they're, they're like my greatest teachers, I think they are

Ruby Roebuck:

like the most heart-centered that a human can be is when you're a child.

Ruby Roebuck:

You're just born that way.

Ruby Roebuck:

And it's just such a gift to be around kids and to see that level of natural

Ruby Roebuck:

playfulness and engagement with life and curiosity and joy and love and wanting to

Ruby Roebuck:

connect and speaking really free freely.

Ruby Roebuck:

They don't have all of these societal conditioning and norms and the ego and

Ruby Roebuck:

everything that we get we're raised and then, , we, we are tainted and

Ruby Roebuck:

we're closed off and we're impacted by all these people around us.

Ruby Roebuck:

But when you're a kid, , there's so much freedom and liberation and

Ruby Roebuck:

joy and, , curiosity and like full body engagement with the world.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I think that's, The best, , dynamic, honestly, even with parents, like the

Ruby Roebuck:

most healthy, beautiful relationships I've seen is when the kids take the lead.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I'm reading a book right now, shout out , it's called Trust Kids,

Ruby Roebuck:

um, essays on Adult Supremacy.

Ruby Roebuck:

And it's all about like, how do we dismantle this idea that adults know more?

Ruby Roebuck:

It's like no kids are let kids lead the way.

Ruby Roebuck:

Life is vibrant and free and loving and beautiful and fun, playful.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I think we can learn all about the heart from being around

Ruby Roebuck:

kids and letting them guide.

Ruby Roebuck:

You raised me with a lot of respect for who I am.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that's like really shaped me.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like I think our parents shape us a lot, you know?

Ruby Roebuck:

That intention that you've had has just been such a gift to

Ruby Roebuck:

allow me to , trust myself.

Ruby Roebuck:

That Oh, yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

I, I, I, I do wanna trust my, my intuition and my being, and it's

Ruby Roebuck:

beautiful when we can give that to each other and especially to kids.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I think you did such an incredible job also as a mother and as a parent

Ruby Roebuck:

in that regard of respect and listening.

, Amanda Lux:

is there anything that you would like to stay in

, Amanda Lux:

closing of this conversation?

, Amanda Lux:

Anything that you wanna share about how and why and what we do around alignment.

, Amanda Lux:

Finding that energetic alignment through the heart.

Ruby Roebuck:

I think it really is like in an exploration and an ongoing

Ruby Roebuck:

process, like we're always just tuning into , what are we processing right now?

Ruby Roebuck:

And I think that can start with asking questions and giving yourself

Ruby Roebuck:

just a little bit of space and a little bit of grace to feel what

Ruby Roebuck:

you're feeling and to allow whatever comes through, like laughter.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like you gave yourself a little space to tune in and there was some struggle

Ruby Roebuck:

and some emotion and then laughter came and that means things are unwinding,

Ruby Roebuck:

so how can we support ourselves?

Ruby Roebuck:

On behalf of our own lives, the fullness of the experience of our

Ruby Roebuck:

lives, how much joy do we wanna feel?

Ruby Roebuck:

How much suffering?

Ruby Roebuck:

If we can feel our suffering, then we can feel our joy.

Ruby Roebuck:

So I, I hope that anybody listening, , feels inspired and supported to

Ruby Roebuck:

create a little more space to explore, explore your heart, and, to think

Ruby Roebuck:

about how, your heart is connected to every other part of your being.

Ruby Roebuck:

Just identifying moments of love.

Ruby Roebuck:

That's one of my favorite daily practices.

Ruby Roebuck:

I, I even do it like when I leave the grocery store, something simple like that.

Ruby Roebuck:

I'm like, where did I.

Ruby Roebuck:

, when did I feel love or when did I sense love?

Ruby Roebuck:

And where did that show up in my body?

Ruby Roebuck:

And one example is like I saw somebody, , who ran into an old friend the other

Ruby Roebuck:

day and it was the moment when they saw each other and they both smiled

Ruby Roebuck:

and then they kind of went off talking.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I wasn't really listening, but I was just kind of feeling and

Ruby Roebuck:

sensing and watching this interaction just kind of in my periphery.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that came up like after I left the store.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I was like, when did I sense love?

Ruby Roebuck:

When did I feel love?

Ruby Roebuck:

And it was in this like moment.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that was a way and that space of reflecting that I identified

Ruby Roebuck:

something beautiful and precious.

Ruby Roebuck:

So how can we do that?

Ruby Roebuck:

How can we tease out these moments and remember how, fucking precious

Ruby Roebuck:

life is and how love really is present everywhere we are.

Ruby Roebuck:

, . So how can we bring that into our view and start to look for it?

Ruby Roebuck:

And then we invited in and then we're living our lives with eyes that are

Ruby Roebuck:

always seeing that love everywhere.

Ruby Roebuck:

Mm-hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

. But of course there's struggle and pain too.

Ruby Roebuck:

So not to, not to think that I'm all knowing or, you know, I'm always

Ruby Roebuck:

learning and struggling and crying and, you know, but I, I do that

Ruby Roebuck:

as a way to reground and that love and to see that beauty.

Ruby Roebuck:

There's beauty in being human.

Ruby Roebuck:

It's beautiful.

Ruby Roebuck:

So that's, that's my little invitation if anybody wants to, , feel into that.

Ruby Roebuck:

Mm.

Ruby Roebuck:

And it could be in yourself also.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

Like where do I feel love in myself,

Amanda Lux:

you know, I love that inquiry so much

Amanda Lux:

I think I've cried more in the last hour conversation with

Amanda Lux:

you than I've cried in a while.

Amanda Lux:

Aw.

Amanda Lux:

Just hearing you talk and , I'm going to continue to anchor through this, for

Amanda Lux:

myself, when I ask that question to get into a safe place in my heart, I'm

Amanda Lux:

going to think about you and the love I have for you and just how you live

Amanda Lux:

and share that and how you teach me that and how incredibly special that that is.

Amanda Lux:

And so I'm just tuning in and feeling that in the moment.

Amanda Lux:

How much love I have for you and your wisdom and your way, it's

Amanda Lux:

such a beautiful contract that we have as mother daughter.

Amanda Lux:

Yeah.

Amanda Lux:

It's really special and special to get to share it here in this way.

Amanda Lux:

I've wanted to have you on here for so long , and this is, this was the doorway,

Ruby Roebuck:

Yes, it was

Ruby Roebuck:

. . Amanda Lux: So I'm gonna, I'm

Ruby Roebuck:

this feeling, this experience.

Ruby Roebuck:

Your words, your energy.

Ruby Roebuck:

And I also wanna just extend that, you know, to anyone listening.

Ruby Roebuck:

I guess I wanna just extend that field of love.

Ruby Roebuck:

That it's here between you and I in this moment, in that familial, ancient way.

Ruby Roebuck:

Through our DNA and all of the lifetimes and such that I'm sure we've

Ruby Roebuck:

explored together and will explore throughout time and space and dimensions

Ruby Roebuck:

and , that anyone else in the field of the listening of this, no matter

Ruby Roebuck:

when or how, or who is also connected.

Ruby Roebuck:

Hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

Is also that a part of that human , familial way, that spirit connection

Ruby Roebuck:

that we all share and that we can expand this love between you and I, that we can

Ruby Roebuck:

expand that and include anyone listening and anyone that's in their field.

Ruby Roebuck:

Right.

Ruby Roebuck:

Expanding that out.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

And just feeling our connection of our, the, our vulnerable hearts and

Ruby Roebuck:

how much love we can fit in there.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

And that we can ripple that out and we can all ride that wave together and.

Ruby Roebuck:

. I really do feel in this moment like that is so healing to just tune into that.

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

The heart pulse of our connection throughout all people and all beings,

Ruby Roebuck:

and I wanna live in that place.

Ruby Roebuck:

It is uncomfortable , but it is so deep and so beautiful, and

Ruby Roebuck:

so, so lovely and so precious.

Ruby Roebuck:

Thank you for reminding me of that.

Ruby Roebuck:

Thank you.

Ruby Roebuck:

Thank you for creating me,

Ruby Roebuck:

. Amanda Lux: Thank you for creating me

Ruby Roebuck:

. Ruby Roebuck: I am, I'm so, , grateful

Ruby Roebuck:

Mm-hmm.

Ruby Roebuck:

And you're amazing beingness this, I really do, , look up to you

Ruby Roebuck:

and admire you and just feel , so grateful to have landed in this home

Ruby Roebuck:

of a body and this home of a family

Amanda Lux:

and

Ruby Roebuck:

Yeah.

Ruby Roebuck:

And, and this life.

Ruby Roebuck:

And and I love you.

Ruby Roebuck:

You're awesome.

Amanda Lux:

You're awesome.

Amanda Lux:

You have a really good day.

Amanda Lux:

I'm like so raw now.

Amanda Lux:

I'm like, just been crying this entire time.

Amanda Lux:

Aw, so beautiful.

Amanda Lux:

Every word.

Amanda Lux:

I was like, , oh my God.

Amanda Lux:

You're the wisest, sweetest, coolest person I've ever known, and I'm

Amanda Lux:

so lucky to be related to you.

Amanda Lux:

Back at

Ruby Roebuck:

you.

Ruby Roebuck:

God, I love you.

Ruby Roebuck:

Have a good day, mom.

Ruby Roebuck:

I love.

Ruby Roebuck:

Bye bye.

Amanda Lux:

Thank you so much for listening to this episode of a Lone

Amanda Lux:

Traveler's Guide to the Divine.

Amanda Lux:

. It is such an incredible honor to have shared this intimate conversation

Amanda Lux:

with my daughter in this way.

Amanda Lux:

I love that it came through the synchronicity of them calling me

Amanda Lux:

as soon as I hit record, and that throughout this episode, I was

Amanda Lux:

able to find my own alignment.

Amanda Lux:

And I just wanna remind you to go and check out the YouTube video

Amanda Lux:

that accompanies this episode, which is a sharing of my adventures

Amanda Lux:

painting in Puerto Rico, and then also I wanted to invite you to check

Amanda Lux:

out my website at elevationhive.com

Amanda Lux:

for in-person classes and polarity and cranial sacral therapy and also

Amanda Lux:

online courses and more, resources that are coming all the time.

Amanda Lux:

So make sure that you check out those links in the show notes

Amanda Lux:

And I guess I wanna just say in closing of this episode that.

Amanda Lux:

It's okay to always be learning and growing and that the ways that we

Amanda Lux:

come to our alignment are through the exact ways that we fall out of it.

Amanda Lux:

And I just am really wanting to.

Amanda Lux:

To lean in on that vulnerability and authenticity that comes from

Amanda Lux:

really inhabiting the heart space.

Amanda Lux:

So, Thank you for listening and I appreciate your willingness to

Amanda Lux:

participate with your energy through sharing and commenting , even just

Amanda Lux:

being here in the field of this conversation means so much to me.

Amanda Lux:

So thank you.

Amanda Lux:

It is such an honor to be in sacred community with you.

About the Podcast

A Lone Traveler's Guide to the Divine
For explorers of DreamWork and Energy Medicine
Welcome dreamers, healers, empaths, seekers, and anyone interested in exploring what it means to be a soul on your journey, in these times.

This podcast is a place to come home to in the sanctuary of the great mystery, where the subtler things in life are seen and listened to, where healing is possible through the sharing of poetry, dreams, teachings, interviews and inspiration. This is a place to feel held in sacred community.

Because it can be lonely AF traversing the multiverse, evolving, awakening, harnessing the potency of our dreams, exploring the tools and techniques of energy medicine.

And it takes tremendous courage to tune-in stead of tune-out, to be a light bearer who faces the shadow through conscious exploration, daring to activate our highest potential.

But it is the kind of work that is worth doing. And it is so much more fun, interesting, profound and entertaining when we do it together!

Hosted by Amanda Lux; artist, mother, author, registered polarity educator and founder of the Elevation Hive School and Community for Energy Medicine and DreamWork.

Tune in every new and full moon for meditations, energy balancing and embodiment practices based in Polarity Therapy, dream sharing and fascinating conversations about what it means to live awake in this dream called life.
